Title

"Two Colored Women with the American Expeditionary Forces"

Description

During World War One, Hunton and two other African American women became the only women workers assigned by the US Army to work with the 200,000 segregated black troops stationed in France. The trip was a formative one for Hunton, who became increasingly dedicated to peace activism, internationalism, and the cause of racial and gender upon her return. Hunton wrote of these experiences in a book co-authored with Kathryn Johnson, entitled Two Colored Women with the American Expeditionary Forces (1920)
